Food and craft sale to raise funds in support of Ukraine

A UWindsor student from Ukraine has organized a fundraiser in support of the country on Thursday, April 7. Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, triggering the largest refugee flight in Europe since the Second World War.

Anna Kashkina hails from the industrial city of Kremenchuk in central Ukraine. An exchange student furthering her studies in translation, she is currently living in residence at Canterbury College.

“After seeing all the horror that is happening in Ukraine right now, as a Ukrainian, I feel it is my responsibility to help my people however I can,” she says. “Thank you for your help and support.”

Thursday’s event promises Ukrainian foods and crafts for purchase by donation, including: dumplings, cupcakes, jewelry, door hangings, floral head wreaths, sunflower seed packets, and flowerpots, with the proceeds benefiting humanitarian efforts.

It will run on a drop-in basis 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the college’s administrative building at 2500 University Ave. West.
