Education professor named to helm journal on enrolment management

A UWindsor professor of education has been named editor-in-chief of Strategic Enrollment Management Quarterly, which aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice in enrolment and student success.

“It is my honour and privilege,” says Clayton Smith. “I am hopeful that SEM Quarterly will dive deeper to learn more about the ways enrolment management can be applied to contemporary higher education issues in and beyond North America.”

He also hopes to increase Canadian and international scholarship to draw attention to the connections among equity, social justice, and strategic enrolment management.

The journal explores many issues in higher education, taking an integrated view of the student lifecycle, while respecting the student as a learner, rather than a customer. Its authors are all involved in strategic enrolment management and articles reflect their practical orientation and experience.

Dr. Smith has spent 30 years in higher education administration at four post-secondary education institutions in Canada and the U.S. Most recently, he completed two terms as UWindsor vice-provost — overseeing a portfolio that included academic governance, enrolment management, internationalization, and student affairs — before spending the last five years as associate professor in the Faculty of Education.
