Lancer alumnae representing country on world stage

Team Canada has some blue and gold in its red and white as the Commonwealth Games open today in Birmingham, England.

Lancer alumnae Sarah Mitton (BSc 2018) and Noelle Montcalm (BScN 2012) will compete in athletics and Brett Lumley, associate head coach for Lancer track and field, is serving as a coach.

Birmingham 2022 will feature up to 4,500 athletes in 19 sports and eight para-sports. The meet runs until Aug. 8.

Mitton is a shot putter and Montcalm will race in the 400m hurdles.

Athletics Canada calls the Commonwealth Games a valuable opportunity for competitors working toward Olympic success, noting that Commonwealth athletes won more than four-fifths of the country’s medals at Tokyo 2020.
