Event marks entry for Class of 2026

Grace Kampstra said she was in shock after winning a draw for a semester’s free tuition, Wednesday in the Toldo Lancer Centre.

“I’m so surprised,” she said as she accepted her prize from Beth Ann Prince, past president of the University of Windsor Alumni Association. “I’m grateful to the alumni, of course. This is really going to be helpful.”

The annual prize draw — worth up to $4,000 — is the culmination of the Welcoming Celebration, a pep rally that forms part of orientation activities for new students. Hundreds turned out, grouped by major of study, for addresses by university officials, along with cheers and prizes.

A team from the Faculty of Science, the Spientists, claimed the Lancer Shield as winners of the inter-faculty competition for participation in UWindsor Welcome Week activities. As classes in most programs begin today — Thursday, Sept. 8 — orientation continues across campus.
