Varsity teams complete playoff competitions

Lancer football ended its post-season run Saturday with a closely-fought 43-40 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in an Ontario University Athletics quarter-final.

Windsor quarterback Danny Skelton completed 23 of his 33 passing attempts; Joey Zorn led the Lancers on the ground and in the air with 56 yards rushing, a touchdown, and 63 receiving yards on five catches; and Christopher John ran in two touchdowns. Kicker Brady Lidster added 10 points with two field goals and extra points. On the defensive side, linebacker Devin Veresuk totalled seven solo tackles and three assists.

The Lancer women’s and men’s cross country teams finished fifth and sixth, respectively, at the OUA championship meet Saturday in London.

On the men’s side, Jonathan Rioux and Cameron Cira earned second-team all-start berths with 12th- and 13th-place runs. Their teammates Luke Mawhinney, Paul Popescu, and Zach Staffell rounded out the scoring. McMaster took top honours, with Marauders finishing 1-2-3.

Nicole LaRue led the Windsor women in 18th, Samara Quanz seconds behind in 19th, with Natalie Whitten, Meg Mooney, and Chloe Walker next best for the blue and gold. Guelph took the time title with runners in first, second, and fourth.
