University community invited to share messages of care for suicide prevention

Student Health, Counselling, and Wellness Services is inviting members of the University of Windsor community to submit messages of care for the It Matters that You’re Here suicide prevention initiative.

“One of our goals with It Matters that You’re Here is to regularly involve members of our campus community in the work of ensuring that anyone at the University of Windsor who is struggling with their mental health or who is thinking about suicide knows that our campus cares and that supports are available,” says Katie Chauvin, mental health and wellness co-ordinator.

If you are interested in submitting a message of care for the It Matters that You’re Here initiative, additional information and the submission form can be found here. Messages of care will be reviewed by the wellness team and those that are selected will be published on social media beginning the week of January 23 as an online feature of Lancers Care Week and the Jan. 25 Bell Let’s Talk Day. Selected messages will also be shared on social media into the future as an ongoing part of It Matters that You’re Here.

To be considered in time for Lancers Care Week, messages of care must be submitted by 4 p.m. Jan. 18. Content submitted after this date will continue to be reviewed on a rolling basis for sharing beyond January.

“January 23 marks the start of Lancers Care Week, and this year we will be featuring mental health and well-being training sessions, events, and information booths from more than 30 campus and community partners,” Chauvin says. “It’s going to be a week filled with mental health skill building, promotion, and campus care. We encourage the UWindsor community to follow @UWindsorWellness on Instagram for our schedule of events that will be released in the coming days.”
