Registration Days to offer in-person and virtual support for new students

Planning to register for courses can be challenging for new students. Faculty-based and central academic advising teams, the Office of the Registrar, and Student Recruitment are dedicated to making it as easy as possible for the newest members of the UWindsor family to make a successful start to their university careers.

As a part of New Student Registration Days, representatives from admissions, academic advising, and recruitment will be on hand to help new students plan and register for their fall classes during drop-in hours offered on weekdays, May 19 through June 1 from 1 to 5 p.m.

In alignment with the May 19 opening of the course registration system Shopping Cart and the launch of the registration system on May 26, the program will provide focused live support for new undergraduate students looking for assistance as they plan and register for their first term, first-year courses.

This dedicated service is a part of a more extensive suite of planning tools and resources available at future.uwindsor.ca/plan-your-program, covering the basics, from understanding subject codes to seeing the specific courses required for each program.

With the June 1 deadline for Ontario Secondary School students to accept their offers quickly approaching, the whole focus is to support students to confirm their offers of admission and prepare their academic schedules for fall, get them excited about what their first term at UWindsor will look like, and reinforce that the University of Windsor is the very best choice for September 2022.

Academic program partners have contributed on-demand recorded presentations to help incoming students learn about their course offerings and identify the unique learning opportunities in the first term.

  • Online services are offered live through Zoom, weekdays from May 19 through June 1, from 1 to 5 p.m.
  • In-person recruitment support is offered weekdays at the Welcome Centre, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Students can review the entire series of services at UWindsor New Student Registration Days - Fall 2022.

Salsabel AlmanssoriSalsabel Almanssori will receive an award from the Canadian Association for the Studies of Women and Education for her research on sexual violence prevention in initial teacher education.

Recognition inspires researcher to continue advocacy

Teacher candidates are committed to helping their students understand consent and the continuum of sexual violence but feel they are inadequately prepared to do so, says Salsabel Almanssori.

Her dissertation examining the experiences of teacher candidates learning about sex education and sexual violence prevention will receive recognition today from the Canadian Association for the Studies of Women and Education.

An adjunct professor of education and women’s and gender studies and a full-time educator with the Greater Essex County District School Board, Dr. Almanssori is one of two winners of the association’s graduate awards for 2022.

“I am honoured to receive this national recognition of my scholarship,” she says. “It fuels me to continue this important work, by mobilizing the knowledge of my dissertation and advancing my research program in sexual violence prevention education.”

Association president Lynn Thomas noted the selection committee was particularly impressed by Almanssori’s work to address a pressing issue with implications for advancing safety in schools by highlighting the need for prevention instruction in teacher education.

“We are thrilled to learn about the work of new scholars such as yourself that we believe will make such an exciting contribution to the field,” Dr. Thomas wrote in the letter announcing the award. “From what we have seen in your nomination letter we have no doubt that we will continue to hear about you and your scholarship in the future.”

She invited Almanssori and her supervisor Christopher Greig to attend the association’s annual meeting, conducted online May 16.
