Scholarships an investment in Canada’s next generation of global leaders

Ram Balachandar, vice-provost international, and Patti Weir, dean of graduate studies, are pleased to announce the receipt of two Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships.

These prestigious three-year scholarships are funded through the Community Foundations of Canada, the Rideau Hall Foundation and the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.

AUCC president Paul Davidson says the scholarships will provide students with transformative international study and research experiences.

Two-time winner earns provincial recognition for mentoring student nurses

Peer education is the most effective form of health promotion, says Judi Wilson, which is why she feels student nurses working with her are the backbone of the program.

“I am fortunate that the Faculty of Nursing can send students to work with me,” says Wilson, health promotion nurse in Student Health Services. “I don’t know how my office could function without them.”

Faculty of Nursing charting course to 2017

A new strategic plan for the Faculty of Nursing provides a roadmap to the future, says dean Linda Patrick. She unveiled the document, a six-panel brochure, at a celebratory reception Thursday in Vanier Hall.

UWindsor president Alan Wildeman praised the faculty for setting forth an attainable vision.

“I like the fact that this plan is short,” he told professors and staff. “If it’s not concise, it gets into levels of detail that no one can remember.”

Campus bench to stand in tribute to nursing professor

A retired nursing professor who died August 10 made a lasting impact on her students and colleagues, who are working to ensure her legacy lives on.

They have started an organizing effort soliciting donations to sponsor a commemorative bench to honour Anna Temple, outside the Toldo Health Education Centre.

Dr. Temple joined the UWindsor faculty in 1972 and served in the Faculty of Nursing—including a term as its director—until her retirement in 2005.
