Staffer hoping to put a lid on health care costs

Canada has great public health care, but local hospitals still need a boost to serve the community, says Pat Roberts.

An administrative assistant in Facility Services, she has signed up for the fourth second annual Hats on for Healthcare, an initiative of Windsor Regional Hospital to promote recognition of its programs and services. On Wednesday, February 13, she will join people all across the city wearing hats of all kinds and making donations to the hospital’s foundation.

Facility Services calling on campus community to close windows

Leaving windows open in campus offices, classrooms and labs can be detrimental to buildings’ health, says Facility Services.

The reminder was prompted by an incident last weekend, when a window was left open, freezing water pipes which burst and caused a great deal of damage inside the building.

Although the cold weather this week should provide its own reminder to keep windows closed, freezing temperatures aren’t the only hazard, says administrative assistant Pat Roberts.

Pass earns a year’s worth of casual dress days

The campus campaign for United Way has announced an annual pass entitling employees to participate in its Thursday dress-down days for just $50.

The University has approved casual dress days every Thursday through 2013. Individuals can purchase a sticker each week from their canvasser for a $2 donation to the United Way.

“The pass is just $50, and that donation is tax deductible,” says organizer Lynn McLeod. “If you participate through the year, the pass saves you more than half the cost, plus the tax deduction—what a deal!”

Christmas charity connects campus and community

Christmas has become too commercial, says Janeen Auld, which makes the Adopt-a-Family program a perfect way for her to celebrate the holiday.

“My family doesn’t exchange gifts,” says Auld, an instrument technician in the chemistry department. “It’s just too much stuff. Buying for people truly in need is the only type of shopping I want to do.”
