University Bookstore to host student volunteer fair Thursday

Want to learn more about volunteer opportunities on campus and in the community?

The University of Windsor Bookstore is joining hundreds of other college stores across North America to celebrate and promote social responsibility during the first annual National Student Day.

The store is the setting for a mini volunteer fair, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, October 6. Representatives from Students Orientating Students, the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance and the Womyn’s Centre will be on hand. There will be free food, coffee, coupons and a raffle for a free gift item! Complimentary National Student Day wristbands are available for the first 100 Windsor students in attendance.

The Bookstore is also running a contest to highlight student volunteer experiences. From October 6 to 31, contestants may post highlights of their experiences on the store’s Facebook page. Whether you write about it, create an artwork about it or videotape a story, they promise to post it. The winner will receive a textbook scholarship for the Winter 2012 semester.

In addition, the National Association of College Stores invites university and college students in Canada and the USA to share their stories of social responsibility. The 10 most popular stories will win awards from NACS consisting of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 scholarships as well as iPads. Voting ends October 14; learn more at www.nationalstudentday.com.
