Champions Cup to honour top varsity team

A challenge cup will recognize the Lancer varsity team each year that best exemplifies what it takes to be a champion in the classroom, on the playing field and throughout the community.

In recognition of the partnership between the Department of Athletics and the Windsor Tri-County Investors Group office in creating the new distinction, it will be called the IG Champions Cup.

Lancer teams will gain points towards the competition throughout the year based on a variety of contributing factors including team athletic success, academic achievements, individual conference and league accolades, and team initiatives for community involvement.
Athletics marketing manager Eric Vandenbroucke said he is very excited to launch this project.

“The Lancers are thrilled to have our local Investors Group office on board as the lead sponsor of the newly created IG Champions Cup,” he said. “Thanks to their ongoing generous support, we are going to be able to better recognize the outstanding achievements of our Lancer student-athletes on the playing fields, in the classroom and around the community.”

Trevor LeDrew, regional director for the Investors Group, shared that excitement.

“The IG Champions Cup is the embodiment of hard work, dedication, and an enduring commitment to excellence that Lancer teams display each year,” he said. “It’s our hope that this trophy will signify team achievement at the highest level and represent the best qualities of the student-athletes at the University of Windsor.”
