Music student triumphs in sonata quiz contest

Music student Melanie Wright – a clarinettist herself – won Thursday’s  DailyNews trivia quiz and the prize of two tickets to the Faculty Trio Recital, Sunday in Assumption University Chapel.

Clarinetist Trevor Pittman, pianist Gregory Butler and violinist Lillian Scheirich will perform a program of classical works, including the world premiere of the “Muskoka” sonata by composer Robert Rival. The recital begins at 2:30 p.m.; tickets are $15 general admission, available at the door or in advance by phone at 519-253-3000, ext. 4212; or online at www.uwindsor.ca/music.

Wright won her tickets as her name was drawn from all those who correctly identified “Andante un poco adagio” as the slowest-paced movement in Johannes Brahms’ Sonata in F minor, op. 120 no. 1 , Lake and Marsh as the movements of “Muskoka,” and 1886 as the date of César Franck’s Sonata in A major for violin and piano.
