Senate urges amnesty for student protesters

In its meeting January 13, Senate voted to encourage instructors to allow students to participate in National Day of Action activities on February 1.

Organizers in Windsor plan a march starting at 11:30 a.m. in coordination with demonstrations nationwide calling for the reduction of tuition fees, reduction of student debt and increased education funding.

The resolution reads:

  • Senate encourages instructors to make every effort to allow students to participate in the National Day of Action (February 1, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) without academic penalty (be it grades or otherwise) for being absent in such a case.

The move supports and encourages students to pursue acts of citizenship and engagement, said vice-provost, students and international, Clayton Smith.

Instructors who wish to change their course outlines may do so by January 18.
