Hundreds of instructors and students from institutions across Canada and the United States are expected to attend the sixth annual University of Windsor and Oakland University Teaching and Learning Conference. The universities’ joint annual conference will be hosted this year by Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, May 9 and 10.

This conference, themed Excellence in Teaching and Learning, will explore how excellence in teaching and learning is defined in theory and practice at the post-secondary level. In their highly interactive sessions, keynote speakers Dan Butin (Merrimack College) and James Zimmerman (Rollins College) will discuss new ways to create truly engaging classroom experiences, and to develop valuable student learning assessments.

Workshops and concurrent sessions will explore topics from assessing teaching practices, faculty development, and student engagement, to assessing student learning and student persistence and retention. The conference aims to provide educators with practical, effective tools and ideas for promoting student learning.
“The conference is free to all University of Windsor and Oakland University faculty, librarians, staff, and students,” says Erika Kustra, director of teaching and learning development. “It will be a great opportunity to meet with colleagues from across the border, to explore new teaching and learning strategies, and to exchange ideas.”

The Centre for Teaching and Learning will also provide transportation to and from Oakland University to University of Windsor faculty, staff, and students.

Proposals are welcome from faculty, sessional instructors, academic administrators, staff, and students. The deadline for submissions is February 27.
