New site showcases grad student research experiences

A new web site that showcases the breadth and variety of opportunities available for students to do research here should spark an interest among undergrads considering the possibility of graduate studies, according to Patricia Weir.

“I hope it will motivate them to believe they can be a part of this amazing process of becoming a graduate student,” said Dr. Weir, Dean of Graduate Studies.

Weir was referring to Spotlight on Graduate Research, a new site that will house feature articles about graduate students from across campus. The stories celebrate a wide variety of research experiences and accomplishments the students have enjoyed while enrolled in Masters and PhD programs.

“Graduate students really drive so much of the faculty research that goes on here,” said Weir. “They bring fresh ideas and perspective and it’s important to recognize the contributions they make to the research culture. What better way to tell our story than to have a central location where people can read all about their successes.”

Besides celebrating their accomplishments, Weir said she hopes the site can be used as a tool to help recruit more students into graduate school by showing them the diversity of opportunities that are out there for them. She said the site’s address will soon be published on all of her faculty’s printed promotional materials.

Weir said she’ll be encouraging faculty members from across campus to submit story ideas for inclusion on the site. If you have a story idea, send it to Stephen Fields at stfields@uwindsor.ca.
