Reminder: today’s the day to celebrate graduate and teaching assistants

She gets a lot of feedback from students about being approachable, says Christine Rossi, and it makes her feel her work as a teaching assistant is worthwhile.

The women’s studies major plans to make a career in teaching and four semesters of experience but still remembers how fearful she felt heading in front of a class for the first time.

“It was great opportunity to be asked to design and deliver a workshop for the GATA Academy, and provide some ideas and tools for new members,” she says.

The GATA Network is hoping to spread that experience during GA/TA Celebration Day, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the CAW Student Centre Commons. The event is aimed at current graduate and teaching assistants, students interested in becoming one, faculty members, or—say organizers—anyone interested in learning about the role of GA’s and TA’s.
