Fundraiser to help family of I-75 crash victims

Friends of the Windsor family caught last week in the traffic pile-up on Detroit’s Interstate 75 last week are holding a fundraiser Thursday to help offset the expenses they have incurred.

Seven-year-old Aidan Hicks and his nine-year-old stepsister Gabrielle Greenwood were killed in the January 31 accident; three other family members remain in hospital.

“I am personally very saddened by this tragedy,” says Shelly Scurr, a secretary in the Faculty of Engineering who is a friend and neighbour to the family. “My thoughts and prayers are with this family daily and I just hope that we as a community can come together to help ease some of their struggles.”

A pasta dinner to raise funds for medical bills and other expenses is planned for February 7 at Average Joe’s sports bar, 1286 Lauzon Road. Doors open at 6 p.m.; admission is $10, free to children.
