Students interested in learning more about how they can help protect the local environment and the prospect of finding meaningful work in the field are asked to attend an information meeting Monday morning at the offices of the Ontario Public Interest Research Group .

Members of the Canadian Auto Workers Local 200 environmental committee will be on hand to discuss the creation of a new Good Neighbour Campaign and Right to Know working group for the environment. The organization will focus its efforts on community mobilization and encouraging local industries to reduce and prevent pollution, independent of legal and regulatory routes.

The group would be modelled on the success of the Toronto Environmental Alliance and could provide potential employment opportunities for students interested in working in the green economy, according to committee member John Gaudette.

“They’ve basically created jobs for themselves by using grant money to tackle environmental issues,” Gaudette said of the Toronto organization. “This meeting will provide students with a chance to have their say on how this group develops and to be a part of positive environmental change in Windsor and Essex County.”
