Video records Lancers’ homecoming

A video by Chris Kolonelos of the Centre for Teaching and Learning captured the scene last week, when the Lancer women’s basketball team returned from Regina as three-time Canadian Interuniversity Sport champions.

“We’re with family right now,” head coach Chantal Vallée told dozens of supporters who welcomed the team as members entered the St. Denis Centre.

CIS honours leading Lancer

Canadian Interuniversity Sport named Lancer guard Korissa Williams its female athlete of the week for the period ending March 17. The third-year business student earned MVP honours in the national tournament that saw Windsor become the fourth team in history to capture a third straight Bronze Baby Trophy.

Williams scored in double digits and led all players on the court in steals in all three Lancer games, including 14 points and four steals in a 56-46 first-round win over Ottawa, 19 and six in an 82-65 semifinal victory against Calgary, and 13 and five in a 66-57 gold-medal triumph over tournament host Regina.

Williams is a former junior national team member who represented Canada at the 2011 FIBA under-19 world championship. Tyler Carroll, a hockey player from the University of New Brunswick, won the CIS male athlete of the week award.
