Collective Bargaining updates at the University of Windsor

Bargaining discussions continue with the University of Windsor and CUPE Local 1393 with the assistance of a mediator appointed by the Ministry of Labour on September 5 and 6. The University remains confident that an agreement can be reached. University administration has learned from the Ministry of Labour that a No Board report has been issued at the request of CUPE 1393, with a deadline of 12:01 am on September 8, which puts them in a legal strike position and the University in a legal lock out position at that time. In the event of a strike, the University will remain open and classes will resume on September 9 with a reduced number of services available.

Also, discussions with CAW 195 and CAW 2458 were held on August 26 and 27 and will continue from September 9 through 13. Once again, the University remains confident that an agreement can be reached with these groups as well. A No Board report has been issued at the request of CAW 195 and CAW 2458 with a deadline of 12:01 am on September 16, which puts them in a legal strike position and the University in a legal lock out position at that time. Again, in the event of a strike by these CAW groups, the University intends to remain open and classes will continue with a reduced number of services available.

As previously reported, discussions with CUPE 1001 continue with a conciliator on September 3 and 4.

CUPE 1393 represents approximately 281 technical, trades and professional staff at the University of Windsor.

CUPE 1001 represents 118 full-time and 202 part-time housekeeping, grounds, maintenance and food services staff.

CAW 2458 represents 362 clerical staff, operating engineers, refrigeration mechanics and mechanics.

CAW 195 represents 26 campus community police and parking services employees.
