New menu items to offer variety for Marketplace patrons

New selections in the Marketplace this year will offer more variety for its student patrons, says assistant manager Paolo Vasapolli.

“We put a lot of effort into coming up with new menu items,” he said Tuesday as the food court in the CAW Student Centre wrapped its first day of operations. “We are working to keep up with the trends in our industry that we know our customers will like.”

The Bernie’s Grill station will serve five varieties of poutine and six new burgers.

In addition to traditional and sweet potato poutine, it offers:

  • poutine topped with barbecue pulled pork;
  • vegetable poutine topped with mushroom, tomato, onion and green pepper; and
  • deluxe poutine topped with pepperoni, bacon, hotdog, onion and mushroom.

New burgers include a chicken and waffle combination, Buffalo-style chicken burger, pesto burger, jerk burger, turkey burger, and a vegetarian burger featuring a patty made of the Indian cheese paneer.

The Teriyaki Experience station will now serve only halal beef and chicken, and has added several new items, including salmon, hot and spicy chicken, ginger sesame beef, and a typhoon bowl with chicken, shrimp and tofu.

And the Marche pasta station will beginning serving macaroni and cheese as a daily feature next week. The following weekend—September 14 and 15—and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday thereafter, it will convert to a made-to-order omelette station.

“The bottom line is we want to make sure there is a lot of variety for our student clientele,” Vasapolli says.
