Lancer hockey teams to hit the ice this weekend

The puck will drop on the 2013/14 Lancer hockey season this weekend, with both men’s and women’s teams facing off against opponents at South Windsor Arena.

The men, making their new home in South Windsor Arena, will host the Carleton Ravens for games Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8, $5 for youths and seniors. Read a season preview at goLancers.ca.

The women play their first games of the season at home, Saturday against the UOIT Ridgebacks and Sunday against the York Lions. Both games begin at 4 p.m. Admission is $8, $5 for youths and seniors.

Season’s tickets will be available for purchase at the gate of each of the four games this weekend for $50; cash is the preferred method of payment.

The Lancer soccer teams will play their final home games of the regular season this weekend. Alumni Field is the setting for matches against the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday and the Brock Badgers on Sunday. The women play at 1 p.m. both days; the men play at 3:15 p.m.

Sunday marks seniors’ day for the men’s team, which will honour graduating players Dejo Olagbegi, Chris Lanni, John Bahdi and David Salinitri in a pre-game ceremony. The women’s team has no senior players this year.

Rounding out the weekend action, the national champion women’s basketball team will play two exhibition games against the Concordia Stingers in the St. Denis Centre, Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Admission is $5.
