Students hitting the streets to collect food for area’s needy

Residence students will take to the streets of Windsor this weekend to canvass door-to-door for donations of non-perishable goods to replenish dwindling stocks in local food banks.

The Day of Action—Saturday, March 28—is a program of the Higher Education Reaching Out (HERO) Project. Volunteers will wear bright T-shirts and name tags identifying them as UWindsor students.

Among the most in-demand items identified by the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association are:

  • breakfast foods like cereal, peanut butter and jam;
  • canned beans, tuna, soups and stews;
  • rice, pasta, sauces, boxed macaroni and cheese,
  • juice in boxes or cans;
  • baby needs like strained foods and diapers;
  • personal hygiene products.

To make a donation, contact the Residence Services office at 519-253-3000, ext. 3411, or resservices@uwindsor.ca.
