Fundraising dinner to support aid in Nepal

To support relief efforts in Nepal, the Nepalese community of Windsor, represented on campus by Gokul Bhandari, Associate Professor of Information Systems, has organized a fundraising dinner scheduled for Friday, May 8, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Optimist Community Centre, 1075 Ypres Avenue.

Dr. Bhandari says the government of Nepal has reported the earthquake has destroyed 191,058 homes and damaged 175,162 others, resulting in the internal displacement of more than 37,000 people.

“Many districts and remote villages located outside the aid focus area designated by relief are yet to benefit from international aid efforts,” Dr. Bhandari says.

“There is an urgent need to carry out sustained relief and recovery efforts before the upcoming monsoon season which is forecasted to begin in about six weeks.”

Tickets are $15 minimum. To contribute without attending the dinner please contact Dr. Bhandari at: gokul@uwindsor.ca, or jagdish@uwindsor.cawho.

All proceeds will be given to the Canadian Red Cross (Reg. #119219814RR0001- Contact Matthew.Auld@redcross.ca. Tax credit receipts will be available.
