The keynote event in this year’s Distinguished Visitors in Women’s Studies series will explore the gap between the rights of women and the reality of their lived experiences.

“Rights vs. Realities” is set for Tuesday, October 6, at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.

Writer and filmmaker Zarqa Nawaz, creator of the CBC television comedy Little Mosque on the Prairie, will address “How to be a Muslim feminist filmmaker and still be invited to parties.” Therapist Kathleen Pye, research and policy coordinator at Egale Canada Human Rights Trust and a doctoral student in psychology at the University of New Brunswick, will discuss “Grassroots organizing for women’s rights: the ongoing struggle for reproductive justice in Canada.”
