President’s message welcomes students and faculty

UWindsor president Alan Wildeman welcomed new and returning students--as well as new faculty and staff--to the start of the academic year in an update sent to the campus community on Tuesday.

“I want to thank everyone who has worked very hard to make Welcome Week a success, and to get the campus ready for a return to the fullness of activity that comes at this time of year,” wrote Dr. Wildeman.

The president also outlined efforts to more visibly feature student successes in promoting the University.

As well, the University will appoint 20 new faculty this year in fields as varied as big data analytics, portfolio management, and sustainable energy.

The hirings are made as part of a plan to employ 50 new faculty members in areas aligned within the Strategic Mandate Agreement with the provincial government. In the first year, 2015-16, 15 of the 50 new appointments were made.

“These and other appointments of faculty and staff in the coming year will add significantly to the University’s strengths,” Dr. Wildeman wrote.
