Filmmaker’s address to celebrate International Women’s Day

Campus appearances by filmmaker Min Sook Lee on Tuesday, March 7, will anticipate International Women’s Day.

The Women’s and Gender Studies program will host two events:

  • a screening of Lee’s documentary, Migrant Dreams, at 2:30 p.m. in room 202, Toldo Health Education Centre;
  • a keynote lecture by Lee, entitled “Art and Resistance in the Moment: An immigrant feminist filmmaker on why undoing the alienation of art is not only a strategy of survival, but how we will win!” at 7 p.m. in Vanier Hall’s Winclare Auditorium.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Migrant Dreams tells of agricultural workers struggling against Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program, which treats foreign workers as modern-day indentured labourers. Lee’s film exposes the underbelly of the Canadian government labour program that has built a system designed to empower brokers and growers to exploit, dehumanize and deceive migrant workers.
