Office name changes to reflect shifts in emphasis

Several services that report through the Office of Student Experience will make formal changes to their titles at the start of the school year, reports associate vice-president Ryan Flannagan.

Student Disability Services will become Student Accessibility Services, the Student Success Centre will become the Student Success and Leadership Centre, and Academic Advising will operate independently of both.

“We feel that the term accessibility better represents the work of our staff to facilitate the inclusion of all students fully into the fabric of the University,” Flannagan says. “Our supports focus on helping each individual optimize their academic and social opportunities.”

Student Accessibility Services:

  • provides classroom and testing accommodations;
  • consults and trains in assistive technologies;
  • coaches students with learning disabilities or attention deficit disorders; and
  • works with students and faculty to ensure that the diverse learning needs of students are met.
