Participating in orientation activities Tuesday provided some unexpected benefits, said first-year business student Jenny Neufeld.
During a scavenger hunt that took her and fellow Leamington native Danny Enns across the campus, “we found a lot of shortcuts we didn’t know existed,” she said.
Neufeld and Enns stayed for the Involvement Fair in the David A. Wilson Commons alongside Turtle Island Walk. Organizations from the university and the broader community were on hand to offer information on their activities.
“We wanted to discover more that’s available,” Neufeld said, “especially the exchange and volunteer opportunities.”
Casandra Sholy, president of the newly-formed Korean Pop Culture Club, staffed a display promising film screenings, outings for Korean cuisine, karaoke performances and music appreciation nights.
“I just wanted to share my love for this culture,” said the English major. “A lot of people here have been interested.”
Bio-med students Kaitlyn Hand and Jessica Szawara enjoyed a number of booths, a free lunch, and giveaways.
“I’m hoping to find a club to join,” Hand said as she tried her luck at a bean bag toss game hosted by the Native Student Alliance. “We already scored some free T-shirts.”
UWindsor Welcome Week festivities continue today — Wednesday, September 6 — with program orientation sessions in varying locations across campus, and Welcoming Celebration at 3 p.m. in the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.
