Bus to shuttle fans to men’s hockey home opener

Fans heading from campus to the Lancer men’s hockey home opener will be able to get a lift.

A free shuttle bus will transport students to and from South Windsor Arena on Friday, October 20. Pickup will be from Vanier Circle beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Face-off against the Ottawa Gees is at 7:30 p.m. Return trips will begin at the end of the game. This contest is one of the nine games set aside for the Ignite Pride campaign, which offers prize incentives for student attendance.

The Lancers will also host another national capital team, the Carleton Ravens, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Lancer golfer claims provincial bronze

Lancer Bryce Evon finished third, shooting 72 in both rounds of the Ontario University Athletics golf championship tournament last weekend in Kanata. He won a first-team all-star berth; Melanie Burgess and Tavia Maurovic each earned second-team all-star recognition on the women’s side.

Windsor’s men finished ninth as a team; the women finished fourth and qualified to compete in the national tournament in British Columbia in May. The women’s total was just one stroke off a bronze-medal pace. Head coach Adam Wagner said the close finish was disappointing.

“That’s golf,” he said. “Every shot counts and in this case this statement stands true. A tough reality to realize, but certainly a learning experience for the girls to never give up on a shot or hole because they all count.”
