Described as “one part writing boot camp, one part rollicking party,” National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is coming to campus. The Leddy Library is hosting write-ins every Thursday in November from 6 to 9 p.m. in room 302 of its West Building.

NaNoWriMo challenges participants to write a 50,000-word novel in just 30 days. The only rules are that they must begin on November 1, and no editing is allowed. Organizers provide the structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds — on and off the page.

“It’s lots of fun because of the community (both in-person and online) and the competition of it all,” says information services librarian Helen Power. “Also, you’re not supposed to edit during the month, which lets the creative juices flow. I’ve found it helps a lot of people who have writer’s block or that pesky crippling self-doubt.”
