Campus clinic an opportunity to address urgent appeal for blood

Canadian Blood Services has issued an urgent call for Canadians to give blood. More than 35,000 donors are needed by March 10 to ensure patients continue to have access to the blood they need.

While its national inventory has declined over the winter months, the organization hopes that the arrival of spring will present an opportunity for people to make donating blood part of their routine.

UWindsor students, staff, and faculty have a chance to do their part, with a donor clinic on campus Tuesday, February 27. It will run 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre’s Alumni Auditorium. Walk-in donors are welcome, but appointments will better accommodate donors’ working schedules. To book an appointment, call 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283).

Rick Prinzen, Canadian Blood Services’ chief supply chain officer, notes that patients rely on donors to live longer and healthier lives.

“As we emerge from a particularly challenging winter, we’re asking Canadians to donate blood so that all patients have access to blood when they need it,” he says.

As with previous clinics, the Department of Human Resources encourages all eligible employees to participate in this worthwhile process and asks any employees who wish to donate to make the necessary arrangements with their supervisors regarding the possibility of extended lunch or break periods.
