Career Fair introduces nursing students to potential employers

About 180 nursing students took time Friday to speak with representatives of 12 health care agencies from both sides of the border at a Nursing Career Fair in the Toldo Health Education Centre.

The event will help to match prospective employers and future grads, said Fran Meloche, student success co-ordinator in the Faculty of Nursing.

“The Faculty of Nursing has many partnerships with area hospitals and community organizations,” she said. “It was a natural fit to have many of these employers at our career fair.”

Meloche noted that she heard many of the employers compliment the students on their high level of professionalism.

“It was a proud moment to see nursing students networking with prospective employers,” Meloche said. “We look forward to continue strengthening partnerships with other departments on campus and employment agencies in our community.”

Sarah Overton, campus engagement co-ordinator in Career Development and Experiential Learning, said her office hosted workshop on preparing for the Nursing Career Fair and resumé critiques before Friday to ensure students put their best foot forward.

“This fair also builds relationships with great employers by getting them on campus and exposing them to UWindsor student talent,” she said. “Feedback from employers was overwhelmingly positive, with all saying they look forward to hiring UWindsor grads in the future.”

The event was jointly hosted by the Faculty of Nursing and the Office of Experiential Learning.
