Business pitch competition showcases solutions

A gathering March 18 to view the final entries in the EPIC Blue Sky Competition was cancelled, but that didn’t stop judging.

The contest challenged teams of students representing at least two different disciplines to create videos of their ideas to address problems related to mobility.

The panel of judges — Susan Anzolin, executive director of the Institute for Border Logistics and Security; Jesse Thompson, founder of Fetch Moto; and Justin Lafontaine, program lead of the Ontario Tourism Innovation Lab — watched the videos remotely and selected these winners of the Sushil Jain UWin Triple I Awards:

  • 1st place ($1,000): Drivfluent
    Hardik Sonetta, computer science
    Shriaa Sheth, business
  • 2nd place ($750): Slinger T-Mod longboard
    Andrew Thibault, mechanical engineering
    Stewart Allen, industrial engineering
    Luke Marinelli, mechanical engineering
  • 3rd Place ($500): Nomad Kitchen
Anh Lam, Master of Political Science
    Duy-Khang Dang, Master of Management
Hoa Nguyen, Master of Mechanical Engineering

Now in its fifth year, the competition is organized by the Entrepreneurship Practice and Innovation Centre (EPICentre), and this year was led by co-op student Dalyn Hebert.
