Students and special guest to pay homage to writer at reading

Several guests will help to welcome poet Cecily Nicholson to the University of Windsor during the Feb. 22 reading marking the start of her month-long term as writer-in-residence.

A poet and the author of the collections Triage, From the Poplars, and Wayside Sang — winner of the 2018 Governor General’s Literary Award for English-language poetry — Nicholson will read from her work over MS Teams.

English students will deliver “homage riffs” as part of the event: senior undergraduates Brandon Cormier and Rawand Mustafa and Master’s candidate Jade Wallace.

In addition, former poet laureate of Canada Fred Wah, author of more than 20 books and a winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry himself, will engage Nicholson in a conversation on poetry in conclusion to the one-hour event.

It begins at 7 p.m. Monday and is free and open to the public; attend the event live.
