Information sheet highlights strategies to support employee transition back to campus

Human Resources has added a new information sheet to the Supervisor’s Toolkit launched earlier this year to share best practices on an array of topics with individuals in supervisory positions.

While some employees may feel enthusiastic and energized about the fall return to campus, others may experience re-entry anxiety. As the conversations about returning to campus continue to emerge, employees may experience symptoms of anxiety, panic and worry; they may feel stressed and overwhelmed, experience trouble with sleep, tiredness and irritability and may withdraw from colleagues. These reactions are normal and expected in times of change and transition.

This month’s information sheet outlines some strategies that supervisors can use to support employees to successfully transition from remote to on-campus work. The document highlights these guidelines:

  • Conduct regular check-ins and one-on-one meetings
  • Communicate regularly
  • Strengthen team cohesion and build rapport
  • Prepare for a settling-in period
  • Foster a mentally healthy work environment

The Department of Human Resources encourages supervisors to view the “Strategies To Support Employees Transition Back to Campus” information sheet on the toolkit website.
