Impactful women in tech inspire students

The Office of Career Development and Experiential Learning (CDEL) recently hosted a panel discussion of “Women Who Impact Tech” in partnership with WEtech Alliance to bring female professionals and students together to inspire success, expand their networks, and support women in the technology sector.

Students who attended the event heard from female tech professionals from Rocket Innovation Studio sharing their stories of overcoming obstacles, advancing their careers, impacting the technology sector, and leading others towards success. Panellists also discussed ways to gain relevant experience and shared tips on how to build confidence when entering the workforce.

“Women currently remain highly underrepresented in the areas of software development and technology, so this was a great way to connect students with successful female professionals impacting the industry,” says Farrah Francis, career consultant in CDEL. “We want to support and encourage women’s involvement in tech, and in order to do that, our female students need to see and hear from other women thriving in tech positions.”

Students were eager and enthusiastic to connect during the networking portion of the event, where they discussed perfecting their resumés and technical skills, and how to navigate a male-dominated industry.

Francis says students left the event feeling encouraged and inspired and are looking forward to future opportunities to connect with and learn from more women thriving in the tech industry.
