Adopt a family this holiday season

For more than 30 years, contributions from generous UWindsor faculty and staff members have helped the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Foundation’s Adopt-a-Family program bring holiday joy and delight to thousands of area children and their families.

Organizer of the campus campaign, Sabina Howell, believes it’s a wonderful way to support those in need in our community. She has issued a call to previous participants to sign on, but is hoping to grow the program to involve more departments.

“Teaming with others helps to bring that holiday feeling into the office,” says Howell, administrative assistant in Public Affairs and Communications. “Make Adopt-a-Family part of your own family’s holiday traditions by offering a donation or purchasing a gift for a child in need to honour someone you love.”

Sponsors can choose from a small family of a single parent and child, medium- or large-sized consisting of two parents and four children, or a youth living independently and attending school.

“Right now all you have to do is email me with your preference,” Howell says. “You’ll receive a profile of the family and their wishes along with a list of things to keep in mind when delivering your gifts.”

The Children’s Aid Society will send a truck to campus to collect donations on Dec. 5.
