Poet and artist to speak to current projects

Poet and artist Moez Surani will conduct a public reading and lecture Tuesday, Nov. 8, as part of the series “Engaging the Social: Literary Events and Readings” sponsored by the Department of English creative writing program and the Office of the Vice-President, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.

Surani’s writing has been published internationally, including in Harper’s Magazine, Best American Experimental Writing 2016 and Best Canadian Poetry. His visual and performance works have been shown in Toronto at Theatre Passe Muraille, Nuit Blanche, Videofag, Red Head Gallery, and YYZ Artists' Outlet, and internationally at the Cross Gallery in Taipei, the New Zero Arts Space in Yangon, Palazzolo Acreide’s city hall in Italy, and forthcoming at the WhiteBox: ArtsSpace in New York.

His talk, entitled “Reorganizing My World: Art, Research and the Creative Archive,” will encompass several of his current projects including the ongoing photography project Contemporary Sites of Islamophobia and the work-in-progress The Worst Thing I Did Today.
