The UWindsor Faculty of Nursing looks forward to welcoming its first PhD students in the fall, says dean Linda Patrick.
The new degree program, focused on health outcomes and health services research, will combine coursework, comprehensive exams and a dissertation. It will prepare its graduates to assume leadership roles in academic and practice settings.
“Our PhD program will engage candidates in research and scholarly activities that will ready them for policy development as well as the design and delivery of patient care,” Dr. Patrick says.
The University of Windsor chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School is among the most active in Canada.

A conference Friday brought together nursing students, researchers and practicing professionals to improve health outcomes for patients.
A team of students from UWindsor business, nursing and law programs enjoyed an exchange experience at Oxford Brookes University last week.
Instructors from across campus will come together to explore and exchange effective practices in large-class teaching at “Effectively Teaching in Large Classes: A Symposium of Ideas,” on Friday, November 18.
Organized by faculty members Judy Bornais of nursing and Julie Smit of biological sciences, the event came about as each of them was independently planning to bring a speaker on the topic to campus.
“When we discovered we were on the same track, we thought, why not make a full day of it?” says Bornais.
