Chili lunch to advance charity campaign

A free lunch during the Campus Campaign for United Way is open to students, staff, and faculty and promises chili with the fixings: sour cream, green onions, shredded cheese, and a roll and butter.

Campaign volunteers will be on hand to process any donations in support of the United Way’s cradle-to-career strategy to address poverty in Windsor-Essex.

The event is set for the Student Courtyard between Dillon and Memorial halls on Thursday, March 30, from 11:30 a.m. while supplies last.

Lancer goalkeeper wins national recognition

U Sports named Lancer Nathan Torchia its goaltender of the year Wednesday during the awards banquet before its men’s hockey championship tournament in Charlottetown.

Head coach Kevin Hamlin praised Torchia as one of the finest netminders in the country after a season that saw him notch 16 wins with a 2.04 goals against average and .936 save percentage, then follow that with a 1.78 GAA and .946 save percentage in post-season play.

Windsor is seeded fourth in the University Cup tournament and will open by meeting the Alberta Golden Bears at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17.

Friday also marks the start of the national men’s volleyball championships in Hamilton, with the Lancers seeded fifth and opening with a 3 p.m. match against the Sherbrooke Vert & Or.

All games from both the hockey and volleyball competitions will be webcast live on CBC Sports digital platforms, up to and including Sunday's gold medal games. The full webcast schedule will be available throughout the tournaments at usports.ca/en/broadcast.

Part-time students plan general meeting

The Organization of Part-time University Students will hold its 2023 annual general meeting on Thursday, March 30, starting at 4:30 p.m. in the student centre’s second-floor boardroom.

In addition to board and staff reports and a financial overview, the agenda will feature a keynote address on the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT by Nick Baker, director of the Office of Open Learning.
