Dean’s celebration raises scholarship funds

Almost 200 celebrants of Cecil Houston’s 10 years as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences raised more than $5,000 in his honour for the African Diaspora Youth Scholarship fund.

Guest speakers at a gala held May 9 included current students, faculty, staff and members of the broader community, recalling the accomplishments of Dr. Houston’s tenure.

“It was a wonderful evening,” said organizer Janee Stallard-Cogliati. “We would like to thank everyone who attended and those who contributed in so many ways to its success.”

Friday deadline for tickets to Cecil Houston celebration gala

Friday, May 4, is the deadline to purchase tickets to a gala dinner celebrating Cecil Houston’s tenure as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Wednesday, May 9.

Dr. Houston’s 10 years as dean will end June 30.

The gala will open at 5:30 p.m. at the Caboto Club, 2175 Parent Avenue at Tecumseh Road, and will feature a cash bar and silent auction.

Senate approves merger of music and visual arts

Senate approved the merger of the schools of music and visual arts into a single administrative academic unit at its November 11 meeting.

The merged unit – yet to be named – includes a permanent faculty component of 19. It will deliver the existing programs in the two disciplines and will introduce new programs in film production, sound, interdisciplinary arts, and an option for students to design their own interdisciplinary degrees.
