Survey results to provide feedback on library services

The results of the Ithaka S+R Local Faculty Survey, which closed November 30, will offer invaluable feedback from UWindsor faculty on teaching and research needs in an increasingly digital environment, says Gwen Ebbett, dean of the library.

“I wish to thank all the faculty members who took the time to participate in this important effort,” Ebbett says. “The Leddy Library will make use of this data to shape the ways in which library collections and services can continue to effectively support campus activities.”

Survey results to help library improve services

At a time of declining rates of response to surveys, Gwendolyn Ebbett is very pleased to have seen increased participation in the Leddy Library’s web questionnaire on its services.

“We actually increased our response rate over the previous survey three years ago,” says Ebbett, dean of the library.

She says the library will use the responses to better understand how the University community rates library services and where staff can concentrate efforts towards improving services.

Survey to measure quality of campus library services

A survey distributed to University of Windsor faculty, staff and students earlier this week is designed to assess perceptions of library service, says Gwendolyn Ebbett, dean of the library.

“This survey will allow us to better understand how the University community rates library services and where we can concentrate our efforts towards improving services,” she says. “It will also let us find out how Leddy Library results compare with those of other libraries and determine best practices.”

Workshops to offer professional development to UWindsor staff

Two workshops offered by the Office of Employee Engagement and Development this month promise skills and education in the areas of communications and copyright.

Communication: It’s not just about e-mail
Wednesday, December 5, 9 a.m. to noon in Oak Room, Vanier Hall

Facilitator John Powell of public affairs and communications will explore the pros and cons of e-mail, websites, apps, direct messaging, portals and social media. Participants will learn how to better reach their target audiences with the appropriate communication vehicle.

Library’s plan commits to leadership in learning

Student input helped to inform the strategic direction of the Leddy Library, says its dean Gwen Ebbett, and its focus on five key points.

The library recently unveiled its plan, which dovetails with the objectives of the University’s plan, Thinking Forward … Taking Action.

“In truth, it was not that difficult for us to come up with our goals,” Ebbett says. “We are already making movement on a number of these items.”

Partnership to provide access to etexbooks

A ground-breaking etextbook licensing partnership, the first of its kind in Canada, will provide University of Windsor students with lower costs and greater access to high quality course materials in a wide range of digital formats.

Gwendolyn Ebbett, dean of the library, spearheaded the university-wide agreement with Flat World Knowledge, the largest publisher of openly-licensed college textbooks.

Title change to better reflect academic role of head librarian

A change in her title to Dean of the Library from University Librarian will not change her job or library operations, says Gwen Ebbett.

“It’s a simple acknowledgement of the library’s key role in furthering the academic mission of the university,” she says. “We are an integral part of the teaching and learning on campus.”

Provost Leo Groarke announced the change Wednesday, noting that Ebbett’s position works with the other deans and his office to guide the academic affairs of the University.
