Student voters reject bus pass proposal

UWindsor students overwhelmingly turned down a proposed universal bus pass that would have seen them pay for Transit Windsor services through their student fees.

In balloting by University of Windsor Students Alliance members Wednesday and Thursday, “no” votes held more than a 2-1 margin.

Pub closed until further notice

The University of Windsor Campus Community Police are working closely with Windsor Police Services with their investigation of an altercation originating at the University Pub that resulted in the injury of three young men early Friday morning. The University Pub is now closed until further notice.

Campus to welcome special guests Friday

Prospective students and their families visiting campus Friday for Spring Open House are “our special guests,” says Zora Savic, events coordinator in the liaison office.

She says students, faculty and staff have been busily preparing for the event, one of the most important in the student recruitment process.

“We have learned that coming to our campus, meeting with our people and getting the UWindsor experience is one of the best ways to convince high school students to choose to come here,” she says.

Grants available for travel to conferences on teaching and learning

The Centre for Teaching and Learning invites applications for travel grants to participate in teaching and learning conferences. The centre particularly invites applications for travel to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Academy and the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) annual conferences.

SoTL Academy will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, May 20 to 22, with the theme Collaborative Engagement. For more information, visit the conference Web site.

Film discusses role of women in the Islamic faith

The International Wednesdays documentary series presents Me and the Mosque on Wednesday, March 7, at noon in the International Student Centre on the second floor of Laurier Hall.

Using original animation, archival footage and personal interviews, journalist and filmmaker Zarqa Nawaz explores the multiple relationships Canadian Muslim women entertain with Islam’s place of worship, the mosque.

Deadline approaching for Equity Leadership Award nominations

Nominations for the Mary Lou Dietz Equity Leadership Award from the Windsor University Faculty Association's Status of Women, Diversity, and Equity Action Committee are open until Friday, March 16, 2012.

The award is named to honour Mary Lou Dietz—a late UWindsor faculty member and head of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology—and her contributions to the advancement of women in Canadian universities and colleges.

Medical education to play a role in Windsor’s economic revival: professor

On the eve of the graduation of the first class of physicians from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry – Windsor Program, associate dean Gerry Cooper says medical education in Windsor is really on the move.
