Liaison and Student Recruitment

Itinerary builder to personalize open house experience, say organizers

A new online application allowing registrants of tomorrow’s UWindsor Open House to schedule their activities for the day will help them to set their own priorities, says Zora Savic.

Events coordinator in the Office of Liaison and Student Recruitment, she is “thrilled” with the program. The day is jam-packed with dozens of activities across the campus dealing with academic programs, admissions, scholarships and services.

Faculty of Education to open doors for March 8 recruitment event

Friday’s open house is aimed at helping applicants appreciate what the University of Windsor has to offer, but that doesn’t have to mean just first-entry programs, say organizers of a project in the Faculty of Education. They are hoping to attract University graduates interested in pursuing study in education.

“An education degree will enhance graduates’ abilities in leadership, professional development, instructional, motivational and interpersonal skills,” says acting dean Karen Roland.

Student recruitment office relocates to Odette Building

The Office of Liaison and Student Recruitment has taken up temporary residence in room 204, Odette Building, while it awaits completion of the Welcome Centre.

“This move puts us in a more highly visible and accessible location,” says recruitment officer Katia Benoit. “It will make it easier for prospective students and their families to find us, as well as putting us in the heart of the new and exciting physical changes that are happening across campus.”

Open House gives prospective students a little UWindsor experience

In what organizers are describing as the University of Windsor’s largest recruitment success yet, more than 3,000 high school students and their parents came from all over Ontario to Friday’s Fall Open House.

Sunny skies greeted visitors for tours of academic, residence and athletics facilities, presentations on programs and services, and a barbecue lunch served under four tents in the courtyard outside Dillon Hall. The Mark Calcott Band, an ensemble of UWindsor students, entertained guests as they enjoyed their lunch.

Pop quiz offers chance at UWindsor swag

With the University’s Fall Open House approaching, DailyNews is offering readers a chance to show their school spirit—win a prize package and drape yourself in UWindsor clothing on Friday.

Up for grabs is a collection of clothing emblazoned with the University’s logo—a hooded sweatshirt from the University Bookstore, a golf shirt from the alumni affairs office, a t-shirt from the office of the president, and a silk scarf from the public affairs office.

Don UWindsor gear Friday to show pride during open house

Wearing UWindsor- and Lancer-themed clothing Friday is a good way for faculty and staff to demonstrate pride in the institution to visitors during the Fall Open House recruitment event, says Zora Savic, student communication and events coordinator for the liaison office.

She is encouraging employees to wear appropriate clothing that bears a UWindsor or Lancer logo—or even is simply blue and gold.

“Not only does it show school spirit, it also helps our visitors identify people who may be able to provide basic directions,” Savic says.

Day of activities to explore opportunities engineering offers young women

The engineering profession offers a wide range of career opportunities to young women, from designing pollution control equipment, to supervising construction of a building, to managing hospital schedules. The possibilities of these well-paid jobs are nearly endless.

On Saturday, October 13, the University of Windsor wants to introduce local students to some of them.

Go Engineering Girl, now in its eighth year, will provide girls in grades 7 through 10—and their parents—a chance to learn more about engineering as “a caring profession.”

Investment in Ontario Universities Fair proving valuable for student recruitment

The presentation of the University of Windsor at the Ontario Universities Fair, September 28 to 30 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre was equal to any university in Ontario—and better than most, said Dietmar Lage, head of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

The event is a key opportunity to demonstrate to high school students the benefits of pursuing their education here. Dr. Lage said participating as part of the recruitment team gave him a great sense of pride.

University open house to get boost on local radio show

Business professor Vincent Georgie will discuss the University’s November 9 open house and other efforts to recruit high school students during an “Experts on Call” segment this weekend on CKLW radio, AM 800.

Dr. Georgie’s appearance will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 6.

Print, online, radio, social media, and movie theatre promotions will launch the UWindsor marketing campaign in southwestern Ontario markets later this month.
