Contest to showcase aspiring filmmakers

Are you passionate and creative? Do you love hearing people’s stories? Are you good with a video camera?

Then TVOntario’s Doc Studio contest is for you!

The province’s public educational media broadcaster is inviting aspiring young filmmakers to submit a five-minute interview-based short documentary film, inspired by  the style of TVO’s filmmaker-in-residence Alan Zweig (Vinyl, I Curmudgeon, Lovable, A Hard Name).

University community invited to watch Many in Motion relay

The Many in Motion relay, retracing the Canadian segment of Rick Hansen’s original Man in Motion World Tour, will cross the University of Windsor campus at about 4 p.m. today.

The medal bearers are scheduled to run south on Sunset Avenue from University Avenue to Wyandotte Street, stopping for a five-minute break at about 4 p.m. Michael Ayotte, a UWindsor human kinetics student and captain of the Lancer golf team, is slated for this leg of the relay.

Social worker awarded gold medal for contributions to faith and culture

Odette students host test drive to benefit children’s charity

A group of students in the Odette School of Business are hosting Drive One 4 Ur Community as a fundraiser for the John McGivney Children’s Centre on Saturday, November 19.

The event offers free test drives to licensed drivers at least 18 years old. A local car dealer will donate $20 to the charity for each test drive. The centre provides rehabilitative services to children and youth with disabilities and special needs.

Students to learn about environmental sector careers today

Students interested in learning more about what kind of careers are available in the environmental sector should attend a special event at Vanier Hall today.

Representatives from such employers as BASF, the Ontario Power Authority, Union Gas, the Essex Region Conservation Authority, Dillon Consulting and Stantec Engineering will participate in a panel discussion. A networking session following will allow them to discuss their career paths with interested students.

Showcase a benefit for Somali famine relief

Viva Cultural Diversity Week will close Friday evening with the Care for Somalia Benefit Showcase, at the Thirsty Scholar Pub.

The show promises live music, guest speakers and documentary screenings starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $7, $5 with a donation of an item of winter clothing or a textbook. Proceeds will benefit Windsor’s Somali community and relief agencies in Somalia. Learn more on the event’s Facebook page.

Campus mourns retiree death

Campus flags will be lowered Wednesday in memory of retiree Alan Johns, who died November 8. He joined the University of Windsor in 1985 as a technologist in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, a position he held until his retirement in 2002.

University’s US warehouse to close for Thanksgiving

The university’s warehouse in the United States will close Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25, to celebrate US Thanksgiving. Anyone expecting perishable shipments to come through the facility at that time should take measures to ensure they arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 21, for delivery to campus before the weekend.
