Discovery Channel program seeking country’s greatest know-it-all

The Discovery Channel is looking for talented, inventive, technology-savvy women to participate in a television show to identify Canada’s Greatest Know-It-All.

“On this show, being a know-it-all and using your knowledge to get through challenges is good, positive, and smart,” says casting director Irada Seli. “I am looking to cast great role models of smart, outgoing women.”

Cake celebrates 10,000 likes for University’s Facebook profile

Nothing says “let’s celebrate!” like free cake, says Alisa Giroux-Soulliere, and reaching 10,000 likes on Facebook is something to celebrate.

“It shows the sense of community that surrounds the University,” she said.

Social media coordinator in the Office of Public Affairs and Communications, Giroux-Soulliere presided over the distribution of about 200 pieces of cake Wednesday in the CAW Student Centre.

“People were happy to get the cake and the students said it was a cool tie-in for the last day of classes,” she said.

University offices to close for Good Friday holiday

Most University of Windsor services will close Friday, April 6, in observance of the statutory holiday Good Friday.

Among the exceptions is the Leddy Library, which has commenced 24-hour-a-day operations through April 13 to accommodate exam study. The Paul Martin Law Library will close April 6 and open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:50 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 11:50 p.m.

Most Food Services outlets will close Friday through Sunday.

Keynote speaker to put listeners’ heads in the clouds

Cloud computing can foster innovation, stimulate collaboration and enhance service, says John MacDonald.

The senior account enterprise manager of Google Canada will discuss the rise of cloud computing and why implementing cloud solutions can enhance security and maintain privacy in a keynote address at Campus Technology Day, May 17.

During his three years with Google, MacDonald has helped large Canadian enterprises understand Google’s philosophy and its roadmap for innovative technologies.

Airflow investigators to blow through Dillon Hall washrooms Monday

Contractors will conduct investigations of airflow in rooms 261 and 362 as well as all washrooms in Dillon Hall on Monday, April 9. The work will close each room for about 30 minutes during the course of the day.

International Student Society invites applications for bursaries

The International Student Society invites applications for 11 bursaries for international students demonstrating academic achievement, financial need and community involvement.

Ten awards of $300 each are available to five graduate students and five undergrads, and one additional undergraduate award is worth $500.

Film is a distillation of Canadian scientist’s life and thought

David Suzuki, iconic Canadian scientist, educator, broadcaster and activist, delivers a last lecture — what he describes as “a distillation of my life and thoughts, my legacy, what I want to say before I die” — in the film Forces of Nature.

Cinema Politica hosts a screening of the documentary, winner of a people’s choice award at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in room 108, Odette Building. Admission is by donation.

Leddy Library moving to 24-hour operation for exam period

The Leddy Library will begin round-the-clock operations to accommodate study for final exams Thursday, April 5, at 8 a.m.

The library will stay open from then through Friday, April 13, until 2 a.m. Saturday, April 14. It will re-open that day at 10 a.m. and close at 2 a.m. that night, then re-open Sunday, April 15 at 10 a.m. and stay open through midnight Thursday, April 19.
