Continuing Education is providing teams and individuals with a variety of short, non-credit courses designed for those with busy lifestyles. Staying up-to-date with industry demands is essential in staying competitive in today’s labour market.

These open-to-all offerings help learners gain a competitive edge in their current roles, advance their careers, or simply gain new skills, with minimal pre-requisites and on a part-time basis. Fall courses are now open for registration.

E-Commerce Business Strategy, part of the E-Commerce Certificate, explores how to create and operate an e-commerce business, whether it is an addition to an existing enterprise or a new opportunity. The course will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the different e-commerce models, how to formulate the value proposition for an idea, and how to create a high-level e-commerce business plan. Classes are on Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m. starting Sept. 22.

Project management skills and best practices continue to be crucial for any organization. Continuing Education’s project management courses are delivered in partnership with Procept Associates, an authorized training partner of PMI (Project Management Institute). Procept president Kevin Aguanno will discuss the Accelerated Project Management Certificate and the PMP Exam Prep course in an information session at noon Aug. 15. Registration details are available on the program page. Individuals can start the certificate with Project Management Essentials, a six half-day course, which begins Sept. 26, and be eligible to register for level two courses within the program. Seasoned project managers who wish to pursue PMP certification can register for the PMP ® Exam Prep course starting Oct. 5.

A new addition to Continuing Education’s programming is Introduction to Critical Care. This program is designed for health-care professionals who wish to learn about the nature of working in a critical care unit, with essential topics that will equip learners with the confidence to provide care to patients while staying up to date on trends and technology. The course is comprised of seven self-paced modules and one in-person simulation which spans over the course of 2.5 days. Register by Sept. 26 to ensure ample time to review the self-paced modules.

Other offerings in health sciences include Foundations of Pharmacology, with self-paced modules and one day of live, online instruction taking place Saturday, Aug. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Arrhythmia and 12 Lead Interpretation Workshop. The workshop is designed for those who have experience in basic Lead II ECG interpretation and wish to learn how to analyze and interpret 12 lead ECGs. Sections for fall and winter are also open for the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program Level 1, delivered in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering. Information sessions are available for registration, with an online and in-person option. In the info sessions, instructor Shahpour Alirezaee will discuss the importance of this certification, along with a program overview. Registration details can be found on the program webpage. As mechatronic systems play an ever-increasing role in modern technology, Siemens Technik Akademie Berlin developed this comprehensive industry skill certification as a result of high demand for qualified and motivated personnel. The fall section starts Sept. 16 and takes place on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Fundamentals of Race and Anti-Black Racism starts Sept. 21 and takes place on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. With the support of the Office of the Vice-President, Equity Diversity, and Inclusion, the course covers various topics including race literacy, system and interpersonal racism, oppression, and unconscious bias. Active employees are eligible for $100 off the original course fee, made available by the Department of Human Resources. Email continue@uwindsor.ca for details.

Current and aspiring leaders can gain leadership skills for life through the Applied Leadership program. An information session is taking place Aug. 18 at noon. Register to hear the instructors discuss an overview of the program, and how the soft skills learned can be applied to current and future leadership roles. In a recent announcement, Rocket Innovation Studio will be the Industry Project Partner for the program, providing real-world scenarios from a technology and IT solutions company perspective.

Stats Prep: Intro to Basic Quantitative Methods is new to Continuing Education. The non-credit course prepares students required to take University of Windsor’s SOSC 2500 Basic Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences or a similar class. In the four-week series, students will be introduced to descriptive and inferential techniques used in quantitative social research. Topics include graphing basics, counting principles, probability, normal distribution, Poisson distribution, Binomial distribution, geometric distribution, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing. Class starts Nov. 5.

English Essentials is a cost-effective way to refresh on reading, writing, grammar, and delivering effective presentations. Five self-paced modules are available in this series, and include engaging activities that support practical learning. Each module is only $25 + HST and can be revisited at any time.
