Wind Ensemble concert to spotlight student soloists

Solo performances by four music students are among the highlights of the University Wind Ensemble’s Spring Concert on Friday, April 12, at Banwell Community Church.

The 24-member ensemble, directed by UWindsor alumnus Ric Moor (BMus 1992, B.Ed 1993), will play a varied program which includes the circus march Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite, the theme from the 1988 film Cinema Paradiso, and Frank Ticheli’s 1999 composition Shenandoah, inspired by the folk tune.

Three weekend events to open music student recital season

Three recitals this weekend mark the start of a total of 16 solo recitals performed by third-year and graduating music students at venues around Windsor this spring.

Most of these events will be juried recitals performed for credit, but some students will perform purely for the experience. Each recital incorporates one hour of music, the repertoire representing a variety of styles and periods.

This weekend’s events include:

Garden party a festive welcome for new faculty and staff

He has received an excellent introduction to the University of Windsor and the surrounding community, says Mehrdad Saif. He took up the position of dean of engineering on July 1.

“My whole family feels Windsor people are very friendly,” says the father of two sons, 20 and 18 years old. “Coming from Vancouver, where we got a lot of rain, we feel like we’re in the tropics.”

Dr. Saif was one of the new faculty and staff members introduced to campus Wednesday at the annual President’s Garden Party.
