Shovels are officially in the ground to prepare for the future Lancer Sport and Recreation Centre.
Construction crews will be hard at work around the St. Denis Athletic and Community Centre starting Monday, Oct. 22 and lasting until the new year for the first phase of the project.
The St. Denis Centre is asking patrons to be aware of geotechnical testing taking place over the next two to three weeks in preparation for construction of the Lancer Sport and Recreation Centre.
Golder and Associates will be excavating test pits with a backhoe and drilling boreholes in various locations from College Avenue to Pelletier Street to evaluate soil conditions. St. Denis Centre patrons are requested to avoid the test areas.
The future Lancer Sport and Recreation Centre will provide a cutting-edge facility that brings together University of Windsor students, academics, and the community.
"The Lancer Sport and Recreation Centre (LSRC) will completely transform the student experience at the University of Windsor," said Michael Khan, dean of the Faculty of Human Kinetics. "The facility will allow the Lancer family to be immersed in community groups, students will have more opportunities to be physically active and our researchers will be able to gain experiential learning thanks to the new LSRC."
A town hall meeting Friday will discuss the upcoming referendum on the Lancer Sports and Recreation Centre.
